Weekly "The Grid Glitch" Update: Art Arrives

Time for another weekly update on The Grid Glitch. And what a week it has been, not just for myself, but for the entire team.

Glitch Models

In addition to a lot of bug fixing (the Drone Tail piece was especially complicated), the major accomplishment for this week was finally getting a lot of the final art added into the game. Most notably, the Glitch models have almost all been added.

Glitch Models
Look at them go!

The red piece is the Head of The Glitch. It uses its pincers to grab new pieces to add behind it.

The blue piece is the Sprinkler/Freeze Ray. It sprays liquid nitrogen to put out fires and other cool things.

The yellow piece is a standard Glitch soldier. It can't do anything special, but it's just happy to be here.

The purple piece is the Pusher/Sonic Cannon. It releases a large sonic burst from it's rear speaker to push nearby objects away from it.

Not pictured is the Drone Retrieval Base, which unfortunately hasn't been completely implemented yet. It rocks an awesome green coloring, though.

Other Stuff

But, like I said at the beginning, a lot of stuff got done this week in general, including:

  • Fixing a lot of bugs involving the Drones and the items they pick up

  • Expanding the applications of the Grid

  • Further polishing of Levels 2 and 3

  • Finally making a real Main Menu screen

  • Making music dynamically change volume when SFX are playing

  • Adding more music to the game

  • Putting in the amazing new Fire VFX

  • Updating lighting, textures, and materials across the game

  • Generic Food blocks are starting to get replaced

  • Lots and lots of other bug fixes and other enhancements

Playable Demo

Once again, a new testable build of our game is available for testing. You can find version 0.41 for Windows only here. Other platforms can be made available upon request. All of the rules and details from before still apply, and can be found at the end of this post.

It's so nice to finally be rid of my programmer art.
