After taking a week off, it's time once again for another weekly update on our ongoing Snake game project, or, as it is now officially named, The Grid Glitch.
The Real First Animated Model
A few weeks ago, I talked about an animated Tail model prototype that we had tested. Well, that model is no longer a prototype.
These little guys are just walking around for now, but soon they'll have all of their animations ready to show off. And, if you're concerned about the rest of the art for our game, don't worry. It's not far behind in the pipeline, and we should start seeing it get rolled out over the next few weeks.
Rolling Hills
A previously existing - but little talked about - feature also got updated this week. Namely, the ramps used to climb up to higher elevations in the levels. The enhancement the ramps received this week are that the Glitch models now rotate appropriately while going up them.
Now, this is just the first pass of this feature, so there is still plenty of room for improvement. But, for now, it looks pretty good.
Making the Movement even Smoother Still
Believe it or not, the movement system is still being improved on. This week, the timing of the movement animation was adjusted so that it was more in-sync with how the physics system was interpreting it. In other words, you now actually go on the buttons when you press them.
Other Updates
Here are some of the other major important updates to our game from the past week:
Level 2 has finished initial development and has entered the testing phase
Level 3 has nearly finished its development phase
Most of the art for the game is near completion
VFX and SFX have been adjusted
More music has been added and updated
UI mock-ups are being worked on
Lots of enhancements and bug fixes have been done for Ramps
Playable Demo
Once again, a new testable build of our game is available for testing. You can find Version 0.33 for Windows only here. Other platforms are available upon request. All of the details from before still apply, and can be found at the end of this post.
Level 2 is in this build, but it's a bit hidden away due to its current fragile state. If you really want to test it, though, you can find out how in the "README.txt" file. Just know that it still has some bugs.
We've hit Alpha. That means we're over halfway done already...
