Weekly Snake Update: Playable Demo Now Available

It's time for another weekly update on our ongoing Snake game project. Thankfully, this one will be a shorter update, as not much happened this week.

Bug Fixes

The main thing that happened this week in terms of programming was that we fixed a lot of bugs. Since I've never specifically mentioned any of these bugs before, you probably don't have any idea what they were; and, seeing as how they no longer exist in the game, you'll probably never find out (unless you read the patch notes, but I digress).

Just feel rest assured knowing that there are now a lot less bugs in our game.

Other Updates

In addition to general bug fixes, these are the other notable updates to our game over the last week.

  • The camera angle has been adjusted to be less intense

  • The input system has been improved and expanded

  • Work has begun on additional levels beyond the first one

  • The first pieces of audio have been added into the game

  • Work continues on making the 3D models for our game

  • Possible UI designs have begun being brainstormed

Playable Demo

Speaking of fixing bugs, our game is finally in a state where we are comfortable sending it out into the world for playtesting. If you're interested and have a Windows machine, you can download the Windows build here.

To play, just download and extract the .zip file, then run the file titled "Grid Glitch.exe" (Grid Glitch is our current working title).

If you do choose to help playtest our game, first of all, thank you from all of us. Second, there are just a few things that I'd like to go over to make sure things occur as smoothly as possible for all of us.

Instructions:

  • Inside the .zip file is a text file titled "README.txt"

  • This file contains instructions on how to play and control the game

Error Handling:

  • This is a development build, which makes it easier for us to handle bugs

  • If an error occurs, a console will appear in the lower left corner of the screen

  • If this happens, click the button that opens the Log File

  • Save the contents of said file somewhere where you can access it

  • Also make a note of how this error occurred in the first place

Bug Tracking:

  • Please also note any bugs you find that don't cause an error

  • Videos of any found bug would be greatly appreciated, but not necessary

Sending Data:

  • When you finish with your playtesting, please send all of your error logs, bug reports and videos, and general overall feedback to me at davidfloresmain@gmail.com.

Again, I'd like to thank you on behalf of the entire team for taking the time to test out our game.

How long until this playtesting becomes a contest to see who can break the game fastest?
